During the short break between this posting and the next one that is sure to follow. (If I am so inclined). Please enjoy an excerpt from Greg Tate's "Everything But the Burden" Eminem: The New Negro.

We all knew he was in shape. But did you know that he was a Sensei?
Yes, our very own President Barack Obama was filmed swatting a pesky fly out of mid air during a White House interview with CNBC. Don't think that's so impressive?? TAKE A LOOK FOR YOURSELF
I was actually in LA when Jon shot this and couldn't make it to the shoot. This man had just purchased a new camera (red) and got busy right away. He called me and said they needed a new interior location after a location they'd already scouted fell through. So I hit up Cliff (back in Jersey) to have him call his Auntie (off of Crenshaw) to see if we could use the world famous Earle's Grille. You may have seen it in the NBC mini series "Heroes" when the black girl from Louisiana that could learn anything off of TV kicked a would-be robber through a glass door. Yeah that was LA.
Anyway, back to the relevant. I know you are getting tired of hearing that Jon is a Genius. "That's all 2.0 ever says on this blog."
So what, it's true...and he's getting better.

Here's another one. I feel like I may have posted this one before. But it is one of my favorites and this is my blog so I can do whatever I want.
But on the low (or on the high if you're in the know) Jim Jones got that work. Pay attention or it'll catch you by surprise.

If you are anything like me, you have had a day or two when you've accidentally spent an hour or two on YouTube. Last night was my night. I got started watching Qoolquest's YouTube Channel last night and could not stop, I happen to be obsessed with behind the scenes footage of any and everything. I will watch a special features section on any DVD (shout out Pixar. If you haven't seen how they make Pixar flix, go get some)
At any rate, I fell upon this Travis Barker and Questlove set, taken from The Roots Grammy Jam Session back in February of LAST YEAR. Trust me, it is well worth a look. As far as percussion discussion is concerned, these two are it.
But back to what had me on YouTube in the first place.
For those of you not familiar with Out of My Mind, this album is a remix of Pharrell’s solo debut, In My Mind, which is produced by The Roots’ drummer, ?uestlove. It’s been floating around the Internet for a few months now, but people are just now starting to find it. Now if you know me, you know I don't give out new music. Why? Well, because once everybody gets it, it get's watered down. I know, it's selfish. But, this, you should have. Go find it.
Benny put me on to "In My Mind" in '06 and I couldn't get into it. I didn't dislike it, but it was like a smoothie that hadn't been well blended. Big hunks of fruit and uncrushed ice made it hard to digest. But this remix is pureed, whipped, and blended WELL. This new version of these old tracks makes it easier for me to hear the intricacy and lyrical dexterity Skateboard offers. This album is SUMMER JAMMIN!!!!
The album has currently been shelved by Interscope Records, but has built up a strong fanbase asking for its release. ?uestlove leaked all the tracks himself through his MySpace page. It doesn’t look like this album will ever see the light of day. So, again, go find it.

My paternal grandmother ("Grandmere") and great aunt ("Aunt Hazel") have been singing this song for years. To know them is to love them, because they are some real characters. Grandmere says I get all my talent from her. Not from her side, but from HER. Aunt Hazel has more one liners than any (sit down) comic you know. Together they are almost 200 years old, but still some spark plugs....like "Hot Ginger Dynamite"
